Job description

Insulator – The Insulator must possess knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to insulate surfaces of pipe, ducts, valves, fittings, flanges, boilers, tanks, turbines, evaporators, refrigerating units, bulkheads and similar structures in connection with ship alteration and repair.

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 5- 10 years of experience as a Marine Insulator with knowledge of NAVSRA Standards
• Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
• Musty have a comprehensive understanding of ship repair terminology and ship compartment location nomenclature
• Must be physically and medically capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards
• Must have experience using hand and power tools associated with the trade in a safe manner
• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals using US customary measurement system
• Must possess a basic understanding of the metric system
• Six (6) years of related experience, three (3) of which must be in the maritime environment
• Appropriate PPE must always be worn
• Lift/push/pull 50 lbs to 100 lbs on an occasional basis (0-33% of the day)
• Lift/push/pull up to 20 lbs on a frequent basis (34-66% of the day)
• Work at heights above 12 from ladders, scaffolding, and manlifts
• Fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down\

Responsibilities

• Remove, repair, and install insulation on piping systems, ventilation systems, and various components and structures including Bulkheads
• Remove, manufacture and install portable insulation pads
• Select amount and type of insulation to be installed as well as method of securing (e.g. wiring, pasting, strapping, taping) according to shape of surface
